What our scholars are up against
These are the conditions in the regions where we work. Every scholarship is a decision to change one of these numbers by one.
Kenyan girls married before the age of 18

What a diploma is worth
15–25% higher wages
Each additional year of secondary education raises a woman’s eventual earnings by 15 to 25 percent, with a larger effect for girls than for boys. Source
Later marriage, later children
Girls who stay in school are dramatically less likely to be married as children or to leave education because of pregnancy.
The effect compounds
An educated woman is more likely to educate her own children, which is why a single scholarship rarely stops with a single scholar.
